CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Ruby couldn’t help the tingling feeling of déjà vu that invaded her senses as they drove back to the pack. The excitement and adrenaline that had coursed through her veins had long dispersed, and all she was left with was an engulfing sense of fatigue. The sun had long descended into the horizon, and the moonlight and the high beams from Noah’s car lit up their way. The result of the test still felt surreal to her. Ruby swallowed back the smile that loomed over her lips at her thought. Linda was right. After all the pain, the moon goddess had finally given her a reason to be happy. Ruby turned her head slightly to look at Noah. His face was still blank as he drove, but there was a relief in the air. The notable tension that hung in the air since the incident at the gala has evaporated, leaving behind an ease with which Ruby could flourish.
