Chapter 8
A chill ran through Savannah's veins as she watched her child, the one she had carried in her womb for ten months, turn against her to protect Brielle.
It was then that Wyatt finally noticed Savannah's condition. He merely glanced at her before barking orders, "She's bleeding! Get her to the hospital. Brielle's situation is urgent. I'll take her first!"
Then, he scooped Brielle up and left without looking back.
In the hospital, Savannah was drenched in cold sweat from the pain. Her mind was clouded, and all she could hear was the doctor saying, "Her condition is critical. We need family consent for the surgery."
A distraught Wyatt rushed in. Thinking Savannah was unconscious, he signed the necessary papers, told the doctor to save the baby even if it would cost her her life, and then rushed off again to tend to Brielle.
When Savannah finally opened her eyes, the doctor said with relief, "You're lucky. A moment longer, and it could have been a double loss. Fortunately, both you and the baby are fine."
Savannah stared blankly at the ceiling as the irony of it all sank in. The baby, who had fallen with her down the stairs, was miraculously unharmed.
Yet, she remembered Wyatt's words when he had signed the papers. His sole concern had been the baby's survival. It didn't matter at all to him whether she lived.
Savannah touched her belly as a bitter smile curled on her lips.
To keep up his facade as a caring husband, Wyatt soon appeared with a flask of soup and pretended to be worried. "Sav, tell me what happened. Why did you push Brielle down the stairs?"
Savannah sneered at his attempt to shift the blame.
"I was about to ask you why you were celebrating Brielle's birthday at our place behind my back. And what exactly did you put in my milk?"
Wyatt tugged her hand to his chest and explained, "Baby, I wasn't doing anything behind your back. It's just Camden. You know how obsessed he is with Brielle. Remember what he did to you… Anyway, a problem with the venue for her birthday forced us to host it at our place."
"Then why is Chase calling her 'Mommy'? Where did my son get another mother from?"
Wyatt said, "Well, Brielle has a heart condition, and she can't have kids. Camden asked if Chase could agree to have her as his godmother. I didn't tell you because of your history with her."
Watching him lie so effortlessly, Savannah couldn't begin to imagine how long she had been deceived.
"Then tell me, why did you choose to take Brielle to the hospital first instead of me? Why weren't you worried about me at all?
Her relentless questioning left Wyatt struggling for a response. Flustered, he could only say, "Savannah, I know I messed up. Please, just forgive me."
Savannah yanked her hand back with an unwavering look. She wanted to get to the bottom of this.
Cornered by her persistence and unable to continue the facade, Wyatt finally snapped in frustration. His voice rose as his anger took over.
"Don't you know Brielle has a heart condition? If we hadn't gotten her to the hospital in time, the consequences would have been unthinkable! You knew her condition and pushed her down the stairs. She's a public figure and not a housewife like you. Everything she does is under scrutiny!
"If something serious had happened to her in our home, do you have any idea what the fallout would be? You'd better publicly apologize to Brielle after this!"
