CHAPTER 298: HELP

Ashley Lawson could be said to be many things, but stupid was not one of them. Even though there was no sure way of knowing whether Katarina's claim was valid, she knew there was a possibility that she could be lying. A woman like her would go to any lengths to get what she wanted, and Ashley knew this because she had been in Katarina's position. They were more alike in mindset than the younger woman realized. She had arranged a meeting between them with this in mind. As Katarina strolled into the diner, Ashley observed her for any telltale signs that she had just had a baby. She looked fuller, but that could be because of anything else besides childbirth. "Ashley…" Katarina greeted with an affectionate smile, her hands spread as she approached her. "It's been so long," she muttered, stooping slightly to hug Ashley. "Indeed, you look well," the older lady noted, in a tone that betrayed no ulterior motives. "Why, thank you very much. I'm one of the lucky ones," Katarina beamed proud
