CHAPTER 28: THE COMPANY'S REPUTATION
Lauretta couldn't believe her ears. It was like George had banged his head on the wall and injured his brain. She summed up confidence and replied to him.
"What joke? Do I look like a clown who plays silly jokes? Stanley is my brother-in-law, why wouldn't he care for me?" She stared at him disgustingly.
"Come to think of it, we're divorced, separated, gone out separate ways. On what grounds do you think you can keep monitoring me? What relationship do we possess that makes you think you can keep following me around this city? What right do you have to know who I'm with, where I am, and what I'm doing?" She added sharply, staring at his stricken expression.
George looked confused; he stretched his hands and scratched the back of his head. He was only looking out for Lauretta; he didn't want her getting entangled with Stanley, but his good intentions fell flat after all he did to her in their marriage. It could be love, but it's more of an obsession with her at this point.
