George could not stop re-reading their last emails. Everything had come to light, and he could no longer use the investigation as an alibi to explain why he wanted to talk to her. In the confines of his room, where he was in no danger of his expression being read, he could admit the fact that he missed her greatly. It was like torture. But the real kicker was the way his conscience never failed to remind him of how unworthy he was to even think about her.
