CHAPTER THREE: MISUNDERSTANDING

Brandon nodded and quickly responded, "Alright, just wait a moment." After a while, Brandon returned to the office with several documents. Axel glanced through the documents and couldn't help but read aloud, "Sarah..." Brandon respectfully asked, "Is there anything wrong, President?" Axel pondered for a moment and said, "Nothing." He couldn't shake the feeling that the name Sarah sounded familiar to him. "Brandon," Axel thought for a moment before continuing, "There are three candidates for the president's secretary position. Selena will be leaving next month, and as for the new secretary, I need to consult with you." Axel lightly tapped the table and added, "I have an idea about this matter. Let's observe them for a few days. I'll give you an answer later." Brandon left the office in response. Meanwhile, Sarah was standing in the pantry, patting her chest with some relief. "Oh my God!" Jessica's voice appeared behind Sarah, "Dear, when Brandon asked you to report to the office just now, I was so scared for you." Sarah took a deep breath, "I was just as nervous when I was reporting." "Did everything go well?" Jessica asked with concern. "I managed to finish without any problems," Sarah replied, "I was thinking, if I made a mistake, I would have lost the job I just found." Jessica and Sarah exchanged a smile. Just as they were about to change the subject, a sarcastic voice interrupted them, "I didn't expect you to be so lucky. It's just that our president has a good temper and didn't blame you. Otherwise, do you think you'd still be standing here enjoying snacks?" Sarah shoved the remaining cake in her hand into her mouth and retorted, "Ms. Samantha, I didn't expect you to pay such close attention to my every move." Samantha sneered and continued, "You're being presumptuous." Sarah and Jessica exchanged a glance, both seeing complex emotions in each other's eyes. "I'll remind you," Samantha didn't let up on Sarah, "I don't know what underhanded methods you used to get into the president's office, but don't be too pleased. The position of the president's secretary will never fall into your hands." Jessica couldn't help but frown, "Samantha, isn't that a bit too much?" "What's too much about it?" Samantha persisted, "Did I say anything wrong? This woman just joined the company, and she's already in the president's office! I've been working diligently in the company for five years just to get to where I am now." Sarah sensed resentment in Samantha's tone. Considering that she had just joined the company and had been promoted to the president's office by Brandon, Sarah knew that it wasn't wise to confront Samantha at this point. Sarah didn't say anything and quietly left the pantry. As the end of the workday approached, Axel received a call from his grandmother. "Axel, I heard you're back in the country? Since you're back, go pick up your wife and bring her home. You're a married couple after all, what's with this long separation?" his grandmother urged anxiously. Axel leaned back on his chair tiredly, "Grandma, I just got back. This matter doesn't need to be rushed." "Why isn't it urgent?" his grandmother retorted, "You got married with your new wife just a year ago, and you immediately went abroad. In the end, you owe her." "Okay, I got it. I'll go pick her up after work, alright?" Axel conceded. His grandmother finally smiled satisfactorily, "That's more like it." After work, Axel drove to the apartment complex where Sarah lived, relying on his memory. He took out his phone, intending to call his wife, but suddenly realized that he had forgotten her name. Axel couldn't help but laugh at himself. He wasn't very attentive to his wife, after all. Without much thought, Axel dialed his grandmother's number instead. Instead of admitting that he forgot his wife's name, Axel mentioned that he forgot to save her phone number. His grandmother complained as usual and then sent him a string of numbers. As the evening approached, Axel looked at the beautiful sunset outside the window and inexplicably felt a sense of nervousness. Two minutes later, Axel decided to dial the number. After waiting for twenty seconds, the call was finally answered. To Axel's surprise, a man's voice came from the other end, "Hello, may I ask who's calling?" Axel's eyebrows furrowed. Why was a man answering the phone? Seeing Axel remain silent, the man on the phone seemed to continue asking, but at this moment, a gentle female voice came through, "Dinner is almost ready, what are you doing over there?" "Ah... darling, I'll be right there." The man quickly hung up the phone. Darling? Axel's expression turned cold. So, his newlywed wife had already hooked up with another man and was living with him? The driver in the front seat didn't understand his boss's mood at the moment. He tentatively asked, "Boss, do you want to go upstairs now?" Axel quickly composed himself and said, "Let's go home." The driver didn't hesitate any longer and drove away quickly. Meanwhile, Sarah had just come out of the bathroom. Her friend, Alana, had set the dishes on the table and said to Jake, who was standing by the window, "Darling, what are you staring at? I called you just now, didn't you hear? Come over here." Jake put down his phone and said, "Sarah, your phone rang just now, so I answered it for you." "Oh? My phone rang?" Sarah walked over quickly and picked up her phone, seeing an unfamiliar number. "It was your private number," Jake added. "Did they say anything?" Sarah asked. Jake shook his head, "The person didn't speak, I think they dialed the wrong number." "If it's the wrong number, then forget about it," Alana said with a smile, "There are a lot of scam calls online now, be careful not to get cheated. If someone has something to find you about, they'll call you again." Sarah thought Alana made sense and tossed her phone onto the sofa, saying, "Alright, let's eat first. It's rare for us to get together..." The three long-time friends enjoyed their meal heartily. The next day, Sarah went to the company early. She knew the importance of her job and was determined to give it her all. Axel was a workaholic, and shortly after Sarah arrived at the company, his car also parked downstairs. "Boss, good morning." Sarah and two other colleagues were already waiting at the entrance, and when they saw Axel, they greeted him respectfully. Axel's face didn't look good, and he glanced at Sarah and the others before expressionlessly entering the building. Brandon approached Sarah and her colleagues, and Jessica whispered softly, "Mr. Brandon, why do I feel like the boss isn't in a good mood today?" "Don't ask what you shouldn't ask," Brandon couldn't help but reprimand, "Focus on your own work and put more effort into it. That's how you'll get a raise quickly, understand?" Jessica quickly shut her mouth.
