Chapter 64 Feeling Brighter Now
It was unbearably awkward. Elinor felt the weight of the silence between them. She had never intended to convey any other meaning, but it seemed she had inadvertently created tension. Unable to bear the silent intensity, Elinor said, "I should leave now." Better to leave without saying much than risk making things worse.
As she tried to hastily stand and leave, she had only taken a few steps when a firm grip on her wrist pulled her back. She was compelled to meet the man's gaze. The unexpected eye contact made her heart race. The depth in the man’s eyes, Jaxson's eyes, felt as if it could see through all of her thoughts.
"What you did today, whether it's an apology or for some other reason, I believe you owe me an explanation about what happened yesterday afternoon," Jaxson remarked.
Even strangers owed explanations for abrupt decisions, and their relationship was slightly better than strangers. However, this did not mean they did not owe each other any explanations.
