Chapter 29 If That's What You to Believe
Since it was all just a misunderstanding, it should end there and then. Elinor quickly apologized and turned to leave the room. She gripped the doorknob, trying to open the door, only to find it was locked. Her face went deathly pale. She was alone in the private room with Jaxson, and only his people could have locked the door.
She had clearly expressed her intent to leave, so why would Jaxson do this? A sense of impending danger surged within her. Her lips trembled, and although she could not see her own expression, she could guess it was terrible.
"I've never seen a business meeting in a clubhouse," Jaxson sneered. "Elinor, you're getting better and better at lying."
Elinor knew there was a substantial gap between her and Jaxson. He had every right to belittle her. However, that did not mean she could be unjustly accused. She came here solely for business, and she was not alone.
