Chapter 17
Summer froze for a moment, and she clutched the fabric of her pants tightly. “No, Jasper did give me money, but I’ve been vomiting a lot, so I haven’t had any appetite.”
“No appetite? Don’t you want your baby anymore?” Adrian furrowed his eyebrows, and he was speaking in an accusatory tone.
Summer slowly lowered her head as she did not want Adrian to see the tears that were welling up in her eyes. “Doctor, thank you so much. You’re a good person.”
Even though Adrian often teased her, he never bullied her for real.
“Me? I’m definitely not a good person.” Adrian froze for a moment before chuckling.
A good person? Only idiots would think that he was a good person.
“Take good care of yourself, silly woman.” Adrian shook his head. He then turned and left.
Jasper had always been cruel toward women he did not love. As Jasper’s friend, he was extremely used to this.
But for some reason, he felt that Jasper should not be treating Summer this way.
After Adrian left, Summer opened the nutritional supplements Adrian had brought her with trembling hands. Tears rolled down her cheeks and onto the back of her hands.
Of course she was hungry.
Her blood sugar level was so low that she was feeling dizzy.
She wished that she had not lost her memory. At least she would be able to remember everything.
Her world would not have been a blank piece of paper. She would not have to depend on Jasper alone.
At Princecourt Hotel.
The Ardly family held a welcome party for Samson at the hotel they owned. The fact that Samson was back was not the sole reason this party was held. The master of the Ling family was also planning to officially hand over the family business to his son.
“Mr. Ardly, are you planning to retire?” Someone asked playfully with a smile. “Where’s Young Master Ardly? He’s the star today. How are we doing to start drinking without him?”
Colden Ardly glanced around, and his gaze darkened. “Go and look for Samson.”
His subordinates nodded and quickly left the scene.
At the carpark of Princecourt Hotel.
“Jasper, didn’t you say that… you were not coming?” Victoria got out of the car and looked at Jasper, who was leaning against the car door, in shock.
Did he not say that he did not want to attend Samson’s welcome party?
“Well, I suddenly thought about how my fiancée wouldn’t have a partner if I didn’t attend the party.” Jasper killed the cigarette butt he was holding and walked over to Victoria.
Victoria smiled even though she was panicking. She tried to distance herself from Jasper without being aware of it.
She loved Samson, but Samson refused to reciprocate her love even though Summer was already dead.
If it was not for the fact that the Dawn family’s business was experiencing a capital chain rupture, she would not have returned to the country to look for Jasper.
Jasper narrowed his eyes, and the aura he emanated was extremely cold.
Victoria realized that she had done something inappropriate too, and she quickly walked forward to hold Jasper’s arm.
“Jasper, I just didn’t expect you to come…”
At the backend of the banquet hall.
“Lay out all the dessert properly, do you understand?
“Move faster!”
Summer did not know who the organizer of this grand and beautiful banquet was. They were hiring temporary workers, and she was one of them.
“Hurry up!”
Summer walked into the banquet hall holding a tray and carefully laid out the desserts on one of the banquet tables.
“Jasper, that woman… Isn’t that Summer?” Victoria was entering the banquet hall together with Jasper, and she had only taken a few steps when she saw Summer, who was clad in a uniform and laying out desserts.
Victoria anxiously clasped her hands together. Why was Summer here? This was Samson’s welcome party. What if they met...
She could not believe that those pieces of trash had not gotten rid of this woman. ‘Damn it!’
Jasper looked over at Summer, and his gaze became increasingly cold.
Was this damned woman truly an idiot, or was she overly clever?
She should have stayed at the rented place to take care of the baby in her womb. Why was she embarrassing herself at such a place?
“What on earth are you doing here?” Jasper was emanating an extremely cold aura as he walked over to Summer.
“Uh… Jaz…”
*Bang!* Summer was so shocked that she trembled. She turned and tried to flee, but she bumped into a rich woman.
“Are you blind?” The woman lowered her head to glance at her dress and raised her hand to slap Summer across the face.
Summer froze for a moment. She raised her head to caress her swollen cheek, and she was extremely upset as she said, “Sorry…”
“Why the hell did they hire such a waitress? Would you be able to pay me back if you had destroyed my dress?”
“It wasn’t intentional, and I didn’t dirty your dress,” Summer said in a soft voice and glanced at Jasper without being aware of it.
She did not dirty the rich woman’s dress. Would Jasper defend her?
“How dare you talk back! I feel dirty just by touching someone like you!”
Summer’s eyes welled up with tears, and she fixed her gaze on Jasper.
However, from the beginning to the end, Jasper did not defend her at all.
“Eh, Chairman Miller, who did you come here with? Why don’t we have a drink together. This woman is such a jinx. She totally ruined my mood.” When that woman turned and saw Jasper standing beside Summer, she immediately put on a cheery face and walked over to Jasper.
Jasper ignored the woman and walked toward Summer.
