Ava had been on her toes, following our real estate agent around the vacant art galleries. She knew more than I pretended to know, so I stood back and allowed her to ask questions.
I’d been looking over my shoulder all morning. When we left the house, and Jones trailed me to make sure no one else did, it didn’t feel like enough.
Even the gun resting in my glove compartment felt ten yards away. I didn’t hire someone to beat the Capellos to death because messing with their money was crueler. It put things into perspective for them. They were not the hotshots in Houston. The Hines ran the city, and they needed to be reminded apparently.
