I was in the kitchen when Fletcher arrived home the next afternoon. I’d been chatting with Lucinda about the ball and was unable to hide how excited I was when he walked through the front door.
I bolted down the hallway and found him unbuttoning the top buttons of his T-shirt. He looked disheveled and tired in his face.
I watched him for a moment, trying to pinpoint what was bothering him but he noticed me first.
“Did you have a good day?” he asked.
I nodded and casually walked over to him. “Yes, Bree came by with the wallpaper. It’s up and it’s amazing. What about you? You look glum, to be honest.”
Fletcher chuckled halfheartedly. “I’ve had an eventful day. I bought several nightclubs.”
I lifted my brows. “I didn’t realize you were venturing into the nightclub business."
He shoved one hand into his pocket, stepped over, and laced his fingers around the back of my neck. “I wasn’t. It’s a step at getting back at the Capellos for ruining my mother’s restaurant. I want to show you
