Chapter Fourteen - Fletcher
“This could serve as a honeymoon.”
I glanced at my father in the reflection of his bathroom mirror. He made an arranged marriage sound much easier than it was.
Fiddling with the sleeves of my shirt, I pressed my lips together tightly. “I have meetings. I’m not there to have fun.”
Dad stopped trimming his beard and caught my stare. “Fletcher, I understand that you don’t know Ava well but you’ll never get to know her if you don’t spend time with her. She’s most likely traumatized and lonely, to be frank. Did you pick the wrong girl, son? What is keeping you from her?"
Maybe the fact that she was skeptical about me. The only reason she’d agreed was because she was desperate to get out of her apartment and that job that was holding her back from painting.
Or the guard around her heart.
Or the fact she didn’t seem impressed with me at all.
