Jake placed the empty cup of coffee he'd drained on the table and slumped back against the couch, his eyes fixed on the blank TV screen. He had taken the caffeine, hoping it'd give him some sort of kick or strength, but he still couldn't muster the energy to get up and prepare for work. Not even the fact that Samantha would probably give him a cold, calculating look when she found out he had planned to stay back home. She seemed to be doing a lot of that lately, and they always put him on edge.
