CHAPTER 18 SAMANTHA’S BIRTHDAY
Jake, surprised at the sudden flip of Samantha’s emotions, couldn’t know what she could do about it. He didn’t see what was wrong with keeping tabs on her as a measure of keeping her safe.
He held her in his arms as she cried. Was this some kind of mood swing? He was struggling to wrap his head around the ongoing situation.
"I'll fire my intel first thing tomorrow." He promised because it seemed like the only reasonable solution.
"No. " She cried some more. " What if he has a family?" She lifted teary eyes at him, making Jake feel terrible.
"I'm sorry. What should I do?" Jake asked in confused worry. He never should have told her, and now he didn't know what to do.
"Nothing. Just hold me." And that was precisely what he did for what felt like an hour.
