The car heater was still running, and the only noise was the engine's hum.
Even though Mason was bothered by the thought that Avery might leave him anytime, seeing her right in front of him still gave him a sense of peace.

Mason's right hand rested gently on Avery's face. After almost losing her once, he seemed to cherish her even more. He quietly watched her sleep, never thinking to wake her.
By the time dawn broke and the gas tank was nearly empty, he still didn't wake her. There was something oddly comforting about watching her sleep so peacefully.
Around 6:00 pm, the light outside grew brighter. Avery stretched her arms and opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Mason, sitting there looking right back at her.
