Chapter 6 The New House
Lillian met Matthew's gaze, and her initial joy vanished. Her eyes flickered as she forced a smile. "Matthew, she must be unwilling to let go of the marriage. She's trying to provoke you, pretending not to care. But how did she know you would come here?"
Matthew hated when people pried into his whereabouts.
Clara's presence here wasn't a coincidence. With Lillian's insinuations, Matthew's annoyance toward Clara would only deepen.
"Hmph." Matthew scoffed, clearly picking up on her hint, his tone turning harsher. "Move aside!"
The reaction Lillian had hoped for didn't happen. Instead, she only managed to anger him more.
Lillian shivered, instinctively stepping out of his way.
By the time she gathered herself, Matthew was already gone, leaving her stomping in frustration. "That bitch Clara! Even after the divorce, she still wants attention!"
As she muttered, Riley rushed in, looking flustered. "Lillian! I just spoke to some of the staff at Pegasus Racing Club. They said Clara is Eris!"
Thud!
Lillian's helmet fell to the ground, her eyes wide with disbelief.
Recovering, she yelled angrily, "Impossible! Clara is just a housewife. How could she be the Racing Queen Eris? This has to be a lie!"
Riley pursed her lips, also unwilling to believe Clara had such capabilities. Her eyes lit up with an idea. "Lillian, Clara definitely doesn't have the skills. Why don't you challenge Eris? We can..."
Upon listening to Riley's plan, Lillian's lips curved into a smile, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "Perfect! Let's do it! I'll make sure she embarrass herself in front of Matthew!"
Matthew left without finding Clara, but he did spot a red sports car speeding away.
He recognized it immediately. It was the same car that had picked up Clara from City Hall. After some thought, he sent out a message to his subordinates.
Soon, a Bentley pulled up in front of him. As Matthew got in, his assistant handed him a file. "Mr. Garcia, here's the information you requested. The person who picked up Ms. Clara is Daniel, the heir to the Lewis Group. He hasn't had any contact in the past three years."
Matthew's expression darkened as he scanned the file, his mood growing more somber.
No contact, but they seemed so familiar?
He didn't believe it.
Upon thinking about how Clara treated him versus Daniel, Matthew's grip on the file tightened, his frustration mounting.
He threw the useless file aside, and his cold voice lowered the temperature inside the car. "Keep an eye on Clara."
The assistant, David Martin, was taken aback. When had Matthew started caring so much about Clara?
Hadn't he been indifferent for the past three years?
David naturally didn't say anything, agreeing to closely monitor Clara and report back on every detail.
Matthew's gaze fell on the hurried traffic outside the window, flashing back to the purple car on the racetrack. He could imagine how exhilarated Clara must have felt at that moment. But he hadn't noticed any of that in the past three years!
He wasn't sure if Clara was just too good at disguising herself or if he hadn't paid enough attention.
Unaware of Matthew's thoughts, Clara stood in front of a riverside villa, satisfied with a raised eyebrow. "Nice, I like it. Just deduct the money directly from the card."
Daniel grinned, his eyes full of the mischievousness of a spoiled child. "As long as you like it. But I know you prefer to decorate it yourself. I haven't purchased any furniture for you. When we have time, let's go to Bluorizon together."
Bluorizon Furnishings, the most luxurious furniture mall in Halcyon Bay, was exclusively for the wealthy.
Every piece of furniture there could cost hundreds, not to mention the imported top brands.
A set of furniture could probably buy another new house.
Clara glanced around the house and checked the time on her phone. "Let's go now. The sooner I buy, the sooner I can move in."
Seeing her determination, Daniel didn't object. He quickly led the way to Bluorizon.
Clara decided swiftly, and soon, as she was about to swipe the card to pay for the furniture, the store manager approached with an apologetic expression and handed back the card.
"Sorry, Miss, the person in charge has decided that you cannot purchase this furniture."
Daniel's smile vanished instantly, his brows furrowed. "Who is your person in charge, and what's the reason for refusing the payment?"
