Chapter 11 Dr. Sovereign
Clara smiled and lightly tugged at Matthew's collar. "Mr. Garcia, if you think so, then so be it."
She couldn't be bothered to argue with Matthew anymore, nor did she need to.
Matthew's eyes darkened, and he tightened his grip on her wrist. It seemed like a storm was brewing at the edge of his anger.
"Clara!"
His roar echoed through the room.
The smile faded from Clara's face, and she winced as she shook off his hand. Straightening her clothes, she distanced herself from him.
"Mr. Garcia, it seems you aren't in the mood tonight, so let's consider this one on credit. We can continue another time." With those words, Clara dodged Matthew's reaching hand and swiftly left the room.
Her pace was swift, and by the time Matthew chased after her from the room, she had already entered the elevator.
As he watched the descending numbers, Matthew closed his eyes, suppressing the turbulent emotions in his chest. He adjusted his tie and turned back into the room.
The scent of her perfume lingered in the air, reminding Matthew of the scene just now and Clara's captivating demeanor before him.
His eyes flickered, and he took out his phone to make a call. "Check who was with Clara tonight."
Those people didn't seem to be from Havenshire.
They were probably from the Birwood.
But when did Clara become so familiar with people from Birwood?
In the lobby downstairs, Clara stepped out of the elevator into the cold night wind, which helped dissipate the heat on her body.
She wore a cold expression as she left, but unexpectedly bumped into someone just getting out of a car. Instinctively, she moved to avoid the person but was stopped.
"Ms. Edwards!"
Lillian sized her up and saw the marks on her neck, her hand clenched at her side. "Ms. Edwards, since you have no relation to the Garcia family anymore, shouldn't you keep your distance?"
Clara raised her gaze and found Lillian standing before her with a reproachful look. She couldn't help but find it amusing. "Ms. Baker, my relationship with Matthew seems to have nothing to do with you."
Clara was about to leave when she was blocked again.
"Clara, don't push your luck!" Lillian warned, her face stern as she stared down at Clara, her eyes full of disdain. "Ms. Edwards, I remember you said you were an orphan at first. You only married Matthew because you saved Mr. Andrew. Now that you're divorced from Matthew, no one will support you!"
Clara understood the implication behind her words.
She looked at Lillian meaningfully and quirked her lips. "Ms. Baker, does that mean you have something against me?"
Lillian was taken aback by Clara's directness.
When she regained her composure, Lillian sneered. "It looks like you're not a fool. Since you know, you should stay far away. Now that the Baker family has cooperation with the Garcia family, and my dad and grandpa have an extraordinary relationship with Mr. Andrew, I will definitely be Mrs. Garcia in the future."
Seeing her confidence, Clara clapped her hands with a smile. "Then I wish you all the best, Ms. Baker, in getting what you want."
With that, Clara turned away, her face devoid of any hint of annoyance at Lillian's words.
On the contrary, Lillian, frowning in surprise, watched Clara leave and inexplicably felt that Clara had never liked Matthew!
But recalling their previous intimate scenes, Lillian gritted her teeth in anger. "Stop pretending to be innocent. One day, I'll make you kneel at my feet!"
With that, Lillian left, storming into the hotel.
Soon she arrived at Matthew's room and, as the knock fell, the door opened to reveal Matthew's impatient expression, which was mirrored in Lillian's eyes.
"Matthew, I've got good news for you this time. I managed to reach Sovereign, and he'll be able to arrive at Bayview Central Hospital tomorrow to treat Mr. Andrew," Lillian hurriedly said, waiting expectantly for Matthew's reaction.
Matthew's eyes flickered with a hint of surprise, though he didn't show it on his face. He simply responded, "Thanks, but report the price to David."
"Matthew..."
Before Lillian could finish her sentence, the door slammed shut, leaving her with a mouthful of frustration. Her resentment toward Clara grew even stronger.
Suppressing her anger, Lillian left the room. Once in the elevator, she couldn't help but curse bitterly. "Damn Clara! She must have upset Matthew, which is why he's so impatient with me! This bitch should just drop dead!"
Suddenly, she thought of something, and a strange color flashed in her eyes.
If there were to be an accident...
Upon thinking of this, Lillian's anger dissipated slightly, and she left the hotel with a smile.
Early the next morning, Clara was awakened by an urgent phone call. Seeing the caller ID, she reluctantly answered, and a cold voice came through the line.
"Come to the hospital."
"Okay," Clara responded briefly before hanging up and quickly heading to Bayview Central Hospital.
On the way, she sent a message to William, instructing him to prepare the equipment.
During the journey, Clara reviewed Andrew's medical records and heart CT scans, realizing that Andrew's condition was likely more complicated than she had initially thought. It seemed that surgery might be necessary.
As Clara stepped out of the elevator, she noticed several figures standing in the hallway.
Matthew appeared to be in a bad mood, listening to David speak.
Lillian, standing to the side, spotted Clara approaching and sarcastically remarked, "Ms. Edwards, you're quite busy with important matters. Mr. Andrew used to treat you so well, and now that he's ill, you're slower to arrive than any of us."
Clara raised an eyebrow, not mincing her words as she retorted. "Ms. Baker, you arrived early. Will that cure Mr. Andrew?"
Her words left Lillian feeling annoyed.
Upon seeing that Matthew hadn't said anything yet, Lillian's anger grew even stronger. "Although I'm not a medical expert, I've hired Dr. Sovereign, the best surgeon. I wonder what you have done, Ms. Edwards?"
"You said you brought Sovereign here?" Clara raised an eyebrow, looking at her with a puzzled expression, finding it somewhat amusing.
Lillian was probably being deceived.
But to Lillian's eyes, Clara's expression seemed to reflect shock, making her smile even wider. "Yes, indeed. It took quite an effort to get him here. Unlike some people who think they're all that just because they can perform a little first aid."
It was clear Clara's words carried a hint of sarcasm directed at her.
Clara, of course, noticed and glanced sideways at Matthew. "So, Mr. Garcia, is Sovereign the one you're all waiting for now?"
Matthew couldn't quite fathom why she asked that, feeling a tinge of strangeness.
There was something in Clara's words that made it seem like she knew Sovereign.
The thought crossed Matthew's mind fleetingly before he dismissed it as absurd. Clara couldn't possibly know Sovereign.
Matthew gave a slight nod.
Clara's interest was piqued as she sat down. "I'm curious, too, about this Sovereign Ms. Baker has brought in."
This situation just got interesting, with someone putting on airs under her guise.
