I've heard people talk about the joy of being on the verge of winning a battle, but I've never understood the meaning or felt such joy until now.
I needed no truth to come from Mae's mouth since I'd already correctly predicted it. The marriage connection between them was obviously over, and right now, the opportunity of having Mae to myself was right in my face, staring at me and waiting to be grabbed.
I smiled sheepishly and satisfactorily as I drove, remembering her expression earlier when I guessed that her marriage was over. She didn't argue, so they had already divorced.
“Frank, you're the luckiest man on earth," I said proudly, laughing hysterically like a maniac. Who could have believed that the marriage I've been wanting to ruin ruined itself without my interference?
