Chapter 7 Chance

"I gave you the chance but you ruined it." "Just listen to me once," she tried once again. "If you don't value time, time will never value you. That's my belief," he said. "Trust me Miss Anderson I never go against my belief. You are not an exception either." Till now, Scarlett had only heard about how strict he was. But today, she was experiencing it as well. "Think Scarlett, Think. There must be a way out." "We are getting late for the flight." The man standing beside her told Mr Hilton. He nodded his head. The next moment, all of them started moving towards the car that was parked there. "It's do or die, Scarlett," she whispered. She was going to risk everything, from her chance to her reputation. The moment she saw Mr Hilton was moving, she ran behind him. "Just give me one chance. I promise you will not be disappointed," she tried to convince him. "I suggest you go back, Miss Anderson, don't waste my time further. Thank you," he dismissed her. "You are Scarlett Anderson, how could you back off without trying? Not only my dream but Adrian's hard work was also at stake," she mumbled in a low tone. Meanwhile, Jake settled down in the backseat of the car, Scarlett immediately moved towards the other side of the car, opened the door, and settled down. His team ran towards her, one of the bodyguards even put a gun to her head through the window. She was scared, but that emotion didn't get the better of her dream. So, she was holding her ground strongly. "Get out," Jake's sharp voice echoed. "Not before you promise to give me a chance." "Are you trying to threaten me?" he asked and laughed a bit. "No! I am requesting you," Scarlett said in a slow tone. "Like this, by invading my space?" he questioned. Undoubtedly his face was showing how much he was disliking her stunt. "I am not. I am just asking for a chance." Scarlett looked everywhere but at him. "You lost it. Now I request you to please leave. I am getting late," he politely said. Giving up was bad but giving up early was worse, as it only signified how she hadn't tried enough. Scarlett closed her eyes for a moment and opened them. "Not before you agree to give me a chance." Scarlett knew how much he hated being late and more disagreement with her would land him being late. "We don't want to touch you and drag you out. It's better to come out," the same man who was standing beside me a few minutes ago threatened her. How did she forget they had security? She was only messing up things more for herself. Undoubtedly, she was clueless and disheartened with everything. "Fine! I will discuss things with you right now in the car. But if I don't find you fit for the project. Will you leave peacefully?" he asked her. "Yes! If you won't find me suitable. I will never bother you again," Scarlett assured him, breathing harder. "Gavin, see you at the airport," he told the man. So, his name was Gavin, dangerous just like his face. "We are behind you, Mr Hilton. If you find anything suspicious, inform us right away," he said while looking at me. "I will. I will." Jake moved his head. Then he instructed his chauffeur to ignite the engine. "Before we start I want to apologize to you." Scarlett started. "Let's get to the point right away." Jake stopped her and didn't recognize her apology. "Are you ready?" He asked her. Yes," Scarlett said. "What draws you to a project like, 'The Entangled Destiny'?' he asked his first question. Scarlett stared at him for a moment. "You have exactly 60 seconds to answer every question." He tapped at his watch. Scarlett took a deep breath. Her mind was racing but her voice was steady. "The complexity of the characters and the depth of the story. This project explores the theme of love, loss and redemption which is relatable to me." "Particularly, I'm interested in the protagonist's journey and how she dealt with the loss in her life." "Can you tell me whether you have portrayed a similar complex character before?" he asked her another question. Then he started looking at his watch. Scarlett knew what to answer. But due to time pressure, she was nervous. "Last ten seconds." She heard him saying that. "Yes! In my last film, 'The Melody of Hearts', I played the character who was dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event of her mother's death." "I lived that character. Moreover, I truly believe that that experience had prepared me for a role like this," she replied. "You have to think about how your viewer wants you to see. There is satisfaction before deciding what's in the trend and what will get outdated in a period." He put his insight into her answer. Scarlett nodded and acknowledged that information. "This is your last question so answer this wisely." He told her "I will give my best." Scarlett straightened her back and was ready to answer him. He took a minute to ask her. Meanwhile, Scarlett kept praying to God that she would have something to say. "Don't let me down, god." She prayed. "What is a weakness you have noticed some actors have and that you don’t have?" He finally asked. Scarlett was amazed, she thought that he would ask her about her previous roles. "Unfortunately, some actors see certain projects as too simple for them. A role similar to the previous one, for example, is slated to look the same as most of its chain brethren. I believe that every role deserves the best efforts. Then all projects can be fun." Scarlett looked at him for some reaction. But that man was a poker face. Nobody could take a hint about what he was thinking. She waited. She waited and suddenly the car came to a halt. "You will be informed about my decision whether you fit in this role or not," he told her and took his bag to move out. "Mr. Hilton," she called him again after moving out of the car. "Till when I should expect?" She asked him. He looked at her in muse. "I will come back after a month. Without me, it doesn't get started. So have patience. It's a virtue," he said. "Have a safe journey." She wished him and saw his retreating figure going away. Then she saw a garden. After wearing a mask and covering her face with a scarf, she went there to sit down. In no time, she called the hospital. "How's my grandmother now?" She asked worriedly. "We told you last night. She is stable now. Just avoid giving her stress. Rest, she is good to go. Don't worry, Ms. Anderson," the doctor replied in a low tone. Last night, the doctor told her that her grandma was alright. Miraculously, she survived the stroke. Her heart didn't get damaged. At evening It was a long day, indeed a very long day. Something inside her was telling her that a long night was waiting for her. She stared up at the sky. It was already gray, and the first few stars appeared. Suddenly, as if someone had thrown a handful of silver across the edge of the world. Then her cell phone started ringing, she saw the caller ID, Linda, her stepmother. Scarlett was reluctant to pick up her call but then again she chose otherwise. "Scarlett, your dad is waiting. He has something important to talk to you about," she said in a straight voice. No greeting! Nothing! Just their important matters. "Good evening, Linda." Scarlett laughed bitterly. "Mrs Johansson," she yelled. "Whatever." With that, Scarlett cut her call. That woman tended to ruin her mood but then again it was the routine. Just then her cell phone vibrated again, she received a message. It was from my best friend, Maria. "Waiting for you at the venue. I won't start my concert without you." -With Love [Maria] "Oh, freak! She is waiting for me." The moment she was about to move, her phone rang again. Without looking at it, she picked up the call. "I'm waiting for you, Scarlett. Don't test my patience." A cold icy voice echoed in the air. To be continued…
