Bethany's smile faltered when she heard what Asher said.
"Mommy, please don't be upset. I was just scared Mr. Sibbett might take you away," Asher said, wrapping his arms around her neck. "Mommy, please don't leave me, okay?"
"You silly boy," Bethany said softly, her heart aching as her eyes filled with tears. "I'm not upset, I promise. Last night doesn't matter anymore."
"What about Ely?" Asher asked, his voice trembling with worry. "Can you talk to her for me? I know I did something bad."
"Ely's fine. Just focus on getting better, and you'll see her soon," Bethany reassured him, though seeing him like this made her heart ache even more.
Nearby, Trystan hesitated before speaking. "How about this? I'll invite you, Mr. Sibbett, and Ely to dinner tonight to make up for it. What do you think?"
"That's not necessary," Bethany said, frowning. "I've told you, Mateo wouldn't hold a grudge against a child. Don't put that kind of pressure on Asher. No one's upset with him."
