Gideon’s head snapped up. ‘Kira! I thought you’d—’ ‘Left?’ Kira twisted the lid off the thermos. ‘No, I went to ask the doctor if you can have chicken soup.’ With a big ladle, she scooped out the soup into a small porcelain bowl. Gideon grasped her wrist. ‘I’m sorry about what happened just now.’ Kira frowned. Gideon let go of her hand immediately. ‘It’s fine.’ Kira handed him a small spoon. ‘Try it.’ Gideon tasted the soup and smiled. Kira’s cooking hadn’t improved much. She had this trick of sprinkling MSG if the food was too bland. Gideon had chided her many times. Too much MSG was bad for her health, but she refused to listen. He put down the spoon. ‘What’s wrong? You don’t like the taste?’ ‘No, the soup’s fine,’ Gideon lied. ‘But I just had lunch. I’ll finish the soup later.’ Kira eyed him suspiciously. It didn’t look like he enjoyed the soup. ‘I’m serious. I’ll finish it later.’ Gideon saw the scepticism on her face. ‘Will you bring me soup again tomorrow?’ Kira nodded. ‘If you w
