CHAPTER SIXTY - ERIK'S COMFORT
They set out after breakfast, Erik leading Anna down winding paths and through lush gardens. As they walked, Erik pointed out various landmarks, each with its own story.
"This oak tree," he said, gesturing to a massive, gnarled tree, "is where I first learned to control my shift. I must have been about seven or eight. My father spent hours with me here, teaching me to find my anchor."
Anna reached out, touching the rough bark. "Your anchor?"
Erik nodded, his expression softening at the memory. "Something that keeps you grounded, that reminds you of your humanity even when the wolf is fighting to take control. For some, it's a person. For others, an emotion or a memory."
"What's yours?" Anna asked, curiosity piqued.
Erik was quiet for a moment, his gaze distant. "It's changed over the years. At first, it was my family - the need to protect them, to make them proud. Now... well, now it's more complicated."
