Chapter 8
I knew that my adoptive parents were heartbroken. Their son had grievously injured their adopted daughter. If I insisted on holding Oscar accountable, it would likely ruin his life.
No matter how he treated me, I couldn't deny the fact that I had taken half of the love and care that should have been his. So, I decided to let him off this time.
But only this one time.
"Dad, Mom, let it go. I accidentally slipped and fell down the stairs. This has nothing to do with Oscar," I said.
Oscar clearly hadn't expected me to say that. But after a moment, his expression shifted to one of smugness, as if this outcome was just as he had predicted.
After calming my parents down, I found an excuse to send them out of the room.
Once they were gone, Oscar smirked triumphantly. "Well, well, well. What else do you have to say now, huh? Are you planning to swear that you don't have feelings for me again? If it is as you say, then why aren't you holding me accountable for this?"
