Chapter 5 Keep Quiet
After Katherine left, the room was left with just the two of them. To be honest, both Leonard and Eileen felt a bit guilty when Katherine mentioned last night's events.
Regardless of Leonard's image of being a playboy outside, their relationship was that of family after all.
"Could Katherine have found out something? Was she intentionally probing us when she mentioned it just now?"
Eileen seemed anxious. The relationship between her and Leonard was very delicate, and not many people knew about it.
Moreover, the most important thing was that she and Leonard had no blood relation. If they did, it would be impossible to stay together without causing trouble for the family.
But what made this situation worse was that Katherine knew about it.
Eileen was worried. If Katherine spread this matter indiscriminately, it would be disastrous for the two of them.
Leonard also thought of this. He wasn't sure if Katherine knew about his and Eileen's affair, but regardless, they couldn't let it go.
"Don't worry, I won't let her bully you. Remember, I still have something against her. If she tries to threaten us with our affair, it's impossible."
What had originally made him furious—the suit jacket—now became his weapon. Whether Katherine mentioned last night's events intentionally or unintentionally, he had to take action first.
Eileen's eyes flickered. She understood the true meaning behind Leonard's words but didn't express it directly.
"But... now that she's mentioned it, what can we do?"
"Don't worry. The Sherlitt family values their reputation the most. Even if she did spend time with another man last night, as long as her family finds out, she'll be in trouble."
Leonard spoke with unusual confidence. When Eileen heard this, she breathed a sigh of relief. If there was a solution, then she could relax.
"Alright, cousin, let's go. I'm feeling really uncomfortable here. But do you really believe she wouldn't do anything to hurt you? The appearance of this suit jacket is really strange."
Women's intuition was sometimes very powerful, just like in this situation.
Although Katherine's words seemed flawless, Eileen still felt that the appearance of the suit jacket was suspicious.
But no matter how much she hinted, Leonard didn't care. He believed Katherine wouldn't have the guts to do anything.
"Enough worrying. You don't know the Sherlitt family. They take great pride in their reputation. They wouldn't allow anyone to tarnish it, so this won't happen."
Seeing Leonard's confident demeanor, Eileen didn't say anything more.
But she kept this matter in mind. She had to observe more closely and make sure their affair didn't get exposed, and she needed to teach Katherine a lesson.
She had to make Katherine keep quiet, to understand what she should and shouldn't say.
---
After leaving the hotel, Katherine breathed a sigh of relief. Luckily, she managed to get through this situation today.
If Leonard and Eileen had kept harping on the matter, she wouldn't know how to explain it.
She remembered the wild night with Curtis last night and bit her lip. She found a nearby pharmacy and immediately bought some contraception pills.
Even though she had done something reckless, she couldn't let this situation get out of control, especially not a pregnancy.
Katherine was a bit worried. Had she waited too long to take the pills? But regardless, she had to take them.
After swallowing the pill, Katherine's mind finally calmed down. If she didn't take the pill, she would keep worrying.
At that moment, her phone rang. When she checked, it was her mother calling.
Katherine's expression was complicated. Obviously, Leonard had already called to complain.
The phone rang for two seconds before Katherine answered.
"You have half an hour to come home immediately."
After saying this, the caller hung up, giving Katherine no chance to respond or refuse.
Katherine looked at the disconnected phone, feeling uneasy. She was very reluctant to go back, but she had no choice. She had to go back, especially as a daughter of the Sherlitt family.
After mentally preparing herself, Katherine took a taxi back. Before returning, she stopped by her apartment, took a shower, and changed into a more conservative and dignified outfit.
Yes, the Sherlitt family was very concerned about their reputation, but the things they did would only make people laugh.
Katherine returned home in a conservative yet elegant outfit.
Her mother was sitting on the couch, gracefully holding a cup of coffee.
"Leonard just called me. He said you didn't come home last night, and today you've been bullying his cousin. Do you think you've grown wings?"
The elegant lady placed the coffee on the table, her eyes flashing with cold light.
Katherine trembled under her gaze, her feet feeling weak.
"I'm sorry, mother. I didn't mean to. I had agreed to meet him last night, but..."
"Enough. I don't want to hear your excuses and reasons. You need to understand, you represent the entire Sherlitt family now. You represent my reputation!"
This elegant lady was Katherine's nominal mother and the current mistress of the Sherlitt family, named Paige.
"If it weren't for the party tonight, I wouldn't let you off so easily. Prepare yourself well tonight and don't embarrass me. And about this marriage, it must be successful, even if he already has a secret daughter and other women outside. You must secure this position for me!"
Paige's attitude was crystal clear. Regardless of how much Leonard played around outside, how many women he had, or how many illegitimate children, she had to ensure that Leonard's wife position remained within their Sherlitt family lineage.
As for Katherine, how much she suffered from Leonard wasn't even her concern. She simply didn't want to bother herself with it.
