Chapter 4 Intentional

When Katherine returned, she saw Leonard and Eileen sitting on the couch. Leonard looked furious, and in front of them lay a black suit jacket. The black suit jacket was familiar to Katherine, but she didn't expect to see it here. She had always overlooked it, never imagining it would become a lethal blow. Considering Curtis's cautious nature, although eccentric, he never did anything to harm his own interests. So the fact that this suit jacket was here was intentional on Curtis's part. He wanted to escalate the situation, to make Katherine's situation even more precarious. Katherine walked silently into the room, closing the door behind her. In that moment, Leonard slapped her across the face. The slap was forceful, knocking her off balance and causing her ears to ring. Katherine steadied herself against the wall, turning to glare angrily at Leonard, who raised his hand again. "What, you want to hit me again? Want to switch sides this time?" Shocked, Katherine faced Leonard's impending blow and spoke coldly, her eyes devoid of emotion. At that moment, Eileen intervened, grabbing Leonard's arm and leading him to the couch. "Cousin, don't be angry. There must be a misunderstanding. Katherine just came back from outside. Maybe someone made a mistake and accidentally walked in. This jacket definitely has nothing to do with her." Eileen looked worried, trying to explain for Katherine. But the more she explained, the more suspicious the situation seemed, making it seem like Katherine had done something to betray Leonard. "A mistake? This is a five-star hotel. Which hotel would make such a basic error and let a guest walk into the wrong room? Moreover, this is my exclusive room. It's impossible for anyone to enter by mistake!" To ensure that last night's events would proceed smoothly, Leonard was keenly aware that everything had to be perfect. So he knew very well that there was no way someone could have entered the wrong room. Everything Eileen said was just trying to cover for Katherine. Hearing Leonard's words, Katherine's heart sank. When Curtis had told her that Leonard was behind this, she still had a glimmer of hope. But now, she realized she had never truly understood this man; he was nothing but a hypocrite! "I'm telling you, I agreed to this marriage out of respect for the Sherlitt family. But you dare to humiliate me like this, you must be tired of living!" Leonard grabbed the black suit jacket angrily, threw it on the ground, and stomped on it several times. Throughout, Katherine watched impassively, feeling the scene was almost laughable. Clearly, Leonard was the one who violated this marriage first. But Leonard believed the problem lay with himself. How dare he act like this? "Cousin, there must be something wrong with this. Let Katherine explain first. Maybe things aren't what you think." The more Eileen anxiously defended Katherine, the more it seemed like Katherine was guilty. "What's there to explain? I'm going to tell the Sherlitt family about this and let them know what kind of person she is!" "Oh, really? Before you say that, why don't you think about yourself first? How are you going to explain your actions to your family?" Katherine's words were pointed, causing the other two in the room to suddenly freeze. Had she discovered something about them? But that shouldn't be possible. "Do you want to explain to me where you were last night? I waited for you here, and when you didn't come, I came looking for you. Today, I came with your cousin. It's hard not to suspect what you were doing last night." Katherine didn't want to bring these things to light, but if she didn't, Leonard and Eileen would keep harping on the suit jacket, and she wouldn't be able to explain anything. And with all the marks on her body, she couldn't explain anything anyway. When it came to last night, despite it not being the first time, Leonard still felt a bit guilty. His gaze was evasive, and he instinctively pushed aside thoughts of the suit jacket. "Last night, there was just something that came up suddenly. Can't you stop making a big deal out of it? And she's my cousin; what could I possibly do? She just wanted to see you today. Don't be so suspicious!" "Fine, I just said it casually. Since you're done looking, can you two leave now?" Katherine didn't want to deal with them anymore. After saying that, she went back into the room, grabbed her bag, and packed her things, ready to leave. When she came out again, the two suddenly distanced themselves from each other, as if they had just discussed something. They looked extremely guilty, but Katherine pretended not to notice. "There's a party tonight. You have to come with me." As Katherine was leaving the room, Leonard stopped her and said so.
