"After that, he poured a barrel of gasoline on himself and committed suicide. The fire burned everything to ashes."
I let go of Darren's hand, my arm falling weakly to my side. It felt like half the strength in my body had been drained. I slumped into the chair, unable to hold myself up.
Even without witnessing it, Darren's description conjured the gruesome scene vividly in my mind.
A cold tear slipped down my cheek. Darren wiped it away with his warm hand, his steady voice breaking the silence above me as he gently patted my back.
