Chapter 9
While speaking, Jaxon's alcohol-tinged breath fanned against Helena's neck.
Helena didn't even bother avoiding his breath. She just looked frustrated.
She'd often told me that she hated the smell of alcohol. But that didn't seem to be the case when it came to Jaxon.
Helena didn't answer him. Instead, she looked at me and said, "Wait for me here. I'll get a cab for him then we can go home together. Alright?"
Before I could answer, Jaxon started whining in her arms. He then rubbed his head against her in such a familiar way that he had to have done it hundreds of times before.
When I saw him doing that, I said faintly, "It's fine. He looks like he needs you more. I'll go home by myself."
Helena looked like she still wanted to speak, but I went back into the room to bid goodbye to Anthony and my other classmates before leaving the restaurant in long strides.
Helena wanted to chase after me, but Jaxon held her back and refused to let her leave.
