Chapter 10 Shrink Their Funds
The dim lighting and blaring heavy metal set the atmosphere in the bar, with the dance floor teeming with people gyrating in abandon.
Megan's arrival immediately captured countless male gazes, provoking a continuous trail of whistles.
A man, upon seeing her alone, swiftly moved to engage her.
"Gorgeous, let me take care of your expenses tonight."
His leering look as he spoke was reprehensible.
His hand reached out to caress Megan's face.
Oliver, watching from a short distance, grew anxious and was about to summon the bouncer to Megan's aid.
But in a swift movement, Megan grasped the man's wrist.
With a sardonic smile, she said, "Since the gentleman is so generous, perhaps he would like to treat everyone to a drink."
As she spoke, her gaze briefly flitted to the second floor.
A swath of pale-pink skirt vanished quickly around the corner.
Leaning against the wall, Sophie covered her heart with her hand, feeling its frantic pounding.
She had not expected Megan to be so astute. She had almost been caught.
Daring not to continue her surreptitious filming, she could only pray that the man would be somewhat useful and teach Megan a lesson.
However, it was clear the man was ineffectual, his complexion dramatically pallid with fright at Megan's words.
"Miss, that's no the way to jest."
The expenditure at Thebia was steep. To buy a round for everyone would be impossible for him.
He only earn 3,000 by teasing Megan. .
Megan scoffed, her grip tightening.
"If you can't afford it, go home. Stop pretending to be something you're not!"
With that, she released the man.
The onlookers erupted into derision.
His face flushed with shame. Anger surged, he raised his hand to strike at Megan's face.
"You wretch!"
Before Megan could react, the bar's security intercepted the man and threw him out.
She assumed it had been Myles's order and decided to head to private room 306.
However, as soon as she entered the elevator, she was turned away.
The third floor was reserved for VIPs, accessible only with a membership card or a prior arrangement by a member.
Megan was already aware of this from her investigation of Thebia.
After being ejected, she realized the security's intervention had not been arranged by Myles.
She shrugged it off, assuming someone had simply taken a courageous stand.
Watching the elevator doors close, she sent a message to Emily.
"I was unable to access the third floor. I'll meet with Myles another time once you've made arrangements."
After sending the message, she turned and walked away.
If they were endeavoring to humble her, she would make them plead for her return!
Emily, poised to witness the spectacle from the private room, was alarmed by the message and hurried downstairs to chase after Megan.
-
She had already set the deal with Myles. His irritation would be guaranteed if he arrived without meeting Megan.
Emily would then lose money from him!
Megan was about to hail a cab when Emily's anxious voice rang out behind her.
"Megan, please wait."
Megan turned, "Emily, you were eager to see me embarrassed. It amused you, isn't it?"
Emily attempted to placate her,
"Megan, I apologize for my oversight in not notifying the staff. Please return. Myles is about to arrive."
Seeing Megan remain unmoved, she continued, "Megan, if Sophie refuses to donate her bone marrow, Hannah will be dead."
Megan's expression instantly frosted over and she walked away.
Using her grandmother as a threat was hateful.
Emily, seeing the threat fail, quickly reached out to grasp Megan's arm.
"Megan, I was wrong. I shouldn't have mentioned Hannah. Please, let's settle this inside."
She attempted to tug Megan back into the bar.
But to no avail.
Megan eyed Emily expressionlessly, "Spare your cunning. An inadvertent slip of the tongue in front of Myles would cost you dearly."
Emily pleaded shamelessly before she finally cajoled Megan into the private room.
"Megan, order whatever you like. "
Without hesitance, Megan selected the most expensive items.
Emily, imagining her money dwindling, urgently gestured to Sophie.
Sophie remarked, "Megan, surely you're not planning to take leftovers with you?"
Ordinarily, such a remark would discourage further orders.
However, Megan's aim was to shrink their funds.
With a laugh, she replied, "I mustn't be overly modest when treated so well, especially since you stand to profit a million from me."
The remark silenced Emily and Sophie.
They could not afford to lose substantial funds over petty change.
They had to pacify Megan tonight to proceed with their plans.
Emily feigned generosity, "Megan, order freely."
A procession of drinks and snacks soon arrived.
Kane poured Megan a drink, his gaze lingering on her.
"Megan, you look absolutely captivating today. Toast to you."
As Megan reached for the glass, she deliberately spilled wine on Kane's crotch.
The silver-gray trousers darkened, notably in an awkward spot. He looked like he's peeing.
Kane shouted, "Megan, did you do that on purpose?"
Megan coolly nodded, "Yes. I did not allow you to touch me."
Kane had intended to brush her hand as she took the glass.
He remained unabashed, retorting with audacity, "So what? You're willing to marry Myles—I'm surely more appealing."
He was handsomer and younger than Myles. Megan should be pleased.
"Would you mind if I repeat your words to Myles?"
Kane's composure faltered, "If you dare slander me to Myles, I'll make you regret it—ah!"
He couldn't finish his threat before Megan struck him on the head with a bottle.
The bottle, sturdy, remained intact, but Kane's head was split open. Blood trickled down his shocked face, pooling upon the table.
-
Emily was about to confront Megan, but the door to the private room swung open.
Myles, clad in a leather overcoat, entered with swaggering steps.
His gaze shifted from Kane's bloodied visage to Megan, his pupils dilating.
Indeed, she was the woman who had caught his eye at first glance.
Having her at home would be a visual delight.
He brushed past Kane, seating himself by Megan.
Perceiving her aversion to smoke, he immediately snuffed out the cigar.
"Megan, what just occurred?"
As he asked, he swept a dismissive glance at the Johnson, indicating he would back Megan.
