The rest of the day dragged on longer than I’d hoped. I had effectively watched it turn from day to early evening and then into night in what felt like 5 minutes. The whole day was too damn short. My mind was still whirling from Damien’s visit earlier, the tension in the air as thick as it had ever been. Despite my best efforts to focus, the unease was persistent, gnawing at me with every tick of the clock. Once it was dark and the clock showed 7:30, I decided it was time to leave. I packed my stuff into my bag and made a straight line out of my office, heading straight home.
I had only heard about the world being dim from a few people and from a few books I had read. They were just overreacting, I thought, especially when they mentioned it was about a breakup.
