Isabella sat in the swing at the garden in Abuela's backyard. Her head was on Mateo's shoulder and his arms held her to him.
Isabella stared straight ahead at the beautiful flowers and shrubs in the garden in front of her, but she saw none of it.

" I really would have shot him," She muttered so quietly that Mateo would have missed it if not for his heightened sense. " I would have killed him."
Mateo sighed and tightened his hand around her. " But you didn't," he pointed out.
" Because Mama had intervened, and he had believed her. I would have if he didn't."
Mateo shaked his head. " And you helped him not to lose his job." He raised her head from his shoulder and placed a finger under her chin. He tilted her head up to look at him.
