Logan reacted instantly, scooping Kayla into his arms while Deonna blocked the cameras with her body.
"No comment," Logan growled, his voice low and dangerous. "Leave our daughter alone."
They retreated hastily, Kayla's sobs muffled against Logan's shoulder. The drive home was silent, the weight of what had happened hanging heavy in the air.
That evening, after Kayla had calmed down and gone to bed, Logan and Deonna sat at the kitchen table, both nursing cups of coffee that had long gone cold.
"We can't go on like this," Deonna said quietly. "Something has to change."
Logan nodded, his face etched with worry and guilt. "I know. But what? How do we protect her from all this?"
They sat in silence for a moment, both lost in thought. Then Deonna straightened, a determined look in her eyes.
"We need to talk to Kayla," she said. "Really talk to her. Not just about what happened today, but about everything. We need to be honest with her, and we need to listen to her."
