At Emma's words, Gabriel's expression turned icy.
Emma kept her gaze down, nervously twisting the hem of her skirt. She bit her lip before speaking, "After all, we only did a fake wedding to appease our families. It's been almost three years now."
Gabriel's tone deepened as he asked, "Emma, are you sick of me?"
"What?" She was startled as he gently lifted her chin, forcing her to meet his unwavering dark gaze. For a moment, she felt utterly exposed under his intense scrutiny.
"I'm not planning on getting a divorce," he said, his voice low and steady. "Emma, you mean more to me than anyone..." He paused, suddenly cautious. What if his next words pushed her away?
Changing tack, he added, "Look, Frank and I are just uncle and nephew. So what if people criticize us? The bottom line is—I need a marriage. Do you get that?"
