I smiled faintly. I was convinced my voice sounded light and carefree as I said, "Mr. Brown, thank you. You've made it clear that I'm nothing more than a fool in this marriage. You must rehearse this explanation quite a bit, don't you?"
"It's all a misunderstanding. There's nothing going on between us. You're overthinking it. Don't make a fuss."
I replied softly, "Mr. Brown, I wish you and Xandra a wonderful dinner tonight. Happy birthday to her. May you be by her side every year on her birthday."
I hung up and promptly blocked his number.
