Chapter 7 Master Blake’s Funeral

It was an hour-long drive from the villa to the Blake residence, and I was experiencing nausea for the whole 1-hour trip. Anna’s baby and Curtis’ gaze before he left. Those things were playing on my mind, making me feel suffocated. I could not stand the heartburn, and suddenly, a nauseous feeling surged in me when the car stopped in front of the Blake residence. Hence, I rushed out of the car before I retched violently at the flowerbed, yet nothing came out even after I tried to vomit for some time. “Yo, you got weak after you married into the Blake family. You even vomited after traveling here by car.” A few brutal words came from the door of the mansion. I already knew who it was before I even needed to take a glimpse at her. Master Blake had 2 sons, Tyler and Steven Blake. His eldest son, Tyler, died in a car crash with his wife, leaving Curtis, their only son. The one who was mocking me at the door was Steven’s wife, Margaret Blake. She was my aunt as well. There were plenty of grudges in a wealthy family, but I had already gotten used to it. I tried to overcome the nauseous feeling before I looked at Margaret. I greeted her politely, “Good morning, Aunt Margaret.” Margaret hated me, always. It might be because I came from a poor family, but I managed to get Master Blake’s recognition, so she got envious of me. Perhaps he was also really focused on Curtis, and he even passed on their family matters to Curtis. She could not get over it, and therefore, she expressed her rage at me. After Margaret gazed at me indifferently, her expression changed upon realizing there were no other people in the car. “What? The Young Master of the Blake family isn’t going to attend the funeral?” A lot of people were here, and it was rude for Curtis not to be here. Nevertheless, I laughed and replied to Margaret sloppily, “Curtis has something urgent to attend to, so he can’t be here. However, he might arrive later.” “Haha!” Margaret sneered. “So much for the man that was chosen by Master Blake.” The Blakes were an eminent family, and tons of people were there. Hence, Margaret did not embarrass me a lot as she needed to take care of her reputation, although she disliked me. Later, we entered the mansion together. The funeral took place in the middle of the hall. Master Blake’s body was cremated, and his urn was there as well, with plenty of white flowers arranged in front of it. People were coming on and on, and most of the attendees were famous people because Master Blake was well-known among them. Steven and Margaret were welcoming them outside the mansion, whereas I greeted them in the hall. “Miss Moore,” Mary called me, and she was holding a wooden box. “What’s the matter, Mary?” Although the Blakes were distinguished and eminent, they did not have a lot of children. There were only a few people there, and Master Blake preferred serenity, so he only asked Mary to stay by his side to take care of him. She placed the box onto my palms and uttered in a sorrowful expression, “This is what Master Blake left for you. Please take good care of it.” Mary paused for a moment before she continued. “Master Blake knows that Young Master Blake will force you to divorce with him. Hence, hand this box to Young Master Blake if you don’t want to divorce. He’ll think twice about it, and he won’t divorce you so easily when he sees this wooden box.” I lowered my gaze, glancing at the wooden box. The box was square, and it was locked. I looked at Mary as I asked curiously, “Where’s the key then?” “Master Blake had already passed the key to Curtis,” she answered. Mary continued after observing me for a while. “You looked worn out. You need to take good care of yourself. Master Blake also hopes that you can have a kid with Young Master Blake. Hence, don’t let their bloodline stop at your generation.” I got stunned when Mary mentioned kids. Nonetheless, I still smiled at her as I did not say anything else. After the ceremony, Master Blake was sent to the cemetery to proceed with the burial. After all the hassle, it was evening when we arrived at the cemetery, but Curtis did not turn up. Curtis still did not show up even after the burial ceremony ended. Steven was holding Margaret’s hand as he spoke to me while gazing at me, “Julia, what done is done, so tell Curtis not to hold a grudge against our dad when you reach home. My father doesn’t owe him anything.”
