Chapter 1 I’m Pregnant

Pregnancy: 6 weeks. I was utterly petrified by those words when I read the ultrasound report. We had done it just once, so how did I get pregnant? What should I do? Would Curtis not file a divorce if I let him know about it? No. He would think that I was just being shameless as I was trying to threaten him with the baby. I stuffed the ultrasound report into my bag after suppressing my frustration and left the hospital straight after. There was a shiny black Maybach outside the hospital with one-third of its window wound down. I could vaguely spot a man with an unfriendly expression in the driver’s seat. A handsome man in a luxury car. Naturally, those who walked by were in awe and attracted to him. Curtis was known to be wealthy and charming. However, I had already gotten used to it after so many years. Hence, I got into the car while ignoring all those looks. The man who was taking a nap seemed to realize something. He frowned and uttered in a hoarse voice with his eyes closed, “Is it done yet?” “Yeah!” I nodded while passing him the signed contract and explained, “Director Luke sends his regards as well!” Initially, I was supposed to go on my own to sign the contract, but I met Curtis on my way to the hospital. However, I did not know why he was willing to give me a lift there. “You’ll be fully responsible for the rest of this case!” Curtis was a quiet person. He did not take the contract from me, and he started the engine after assigning the case to me. Without uttering a word, I nodded again. I seemed not to know how other things work, aside from obeying and working for him after being silent for so long. It was already evening when we reached downtown. However, Curtis did not return to his villa, so where was he planning to go? I was curious in my heart, but I was not used to asking questions, so I kept quiet. Upon remembering the ultrasound report, I did know how to tell him about it. I glanced sideways just to realize his eyes were on the road. His gaze was keen, and it was cold as usual. “Curtis!” I voiced out. My hands that were holding the bag got a little moist. Maybe I was nervous, so that was why I got sweaty. “Speak!” Just one word. Without any emotion in it. Curtis had been treating me this way, but I was relieved after some time. Therefore, I took a deep breath to contain my anxiety and said, “I am pregnant.” It was just 3 words. However, Curtis’ phone rang, so I had to swallow my words. “Anna, what happened?” It was fated that his kindness was to be given to that one person only, may it be love or joy. It all belonged to that one person in the end. Curtis’ kindness was only for Anna. I could tell just from listening to their conversation. Not sure what Anna said on the other side of the phone. Curtis then stepped on the brake pedal all of a sudden and comforted her through the phone. “Alright, I’ll be there in a moment. Just stay where you are.” After Curtis hung up the phone, he got back to his cold appearance and said while staring at me. “Get out of the car!” An undeniable order. It was not the first time. Hence, I nodded, swallowing all those words back down my throat as I opened the door and got out of the car. My marriage with Curtis was an accident, and it was fate as well, but it had nothing to do with love. Anna was already in his heart, whereas my existence was merely a decoration, or maybe just an obstacle to him. 2 years ago, Old Master Blake was suffering from myocardial infarction. Thus, he forced Curtis to marry me while on his sickbed. Even though Curtis was unwilling to do so, he still married me because of Old Master Blake. For the 2 years when Old Master Blake was still alive, Curtis would just ignore me. Then, Old Master Blake passed away, and Curtis could not wait to hire a lawyer to prepare the divorce papers. He was just waiting for me to sign the papers. The sky had already darkened when I returned to the villa. The enormous room was empty as though it was a haunted house. Maybe I did not have the appetite because I was pregnant, so I went back to my bedroom and slept after freshening up. While I was half asleep, I could faintly hear the sound of a car engine turning off in the yard. Curtis was back? He did not go to accompany Anna?
