Maria felt as if her mind was about to explode, the overwhelming emotions crashing through her body like a tidal wave. She couldn’t make a sound, only biting her fingers as she sobbed uncontrollably.
Cruz held Maria close, kissing her tear-streaked cheeks, and gently cradled her head. He whispered softly, “It’s okay, calm down. I’m the only one who can bring you peace.”
She understood what he meant—that his embrace, his presence, was the only thing that could calm her down, help her regain her composure, and find peace. She needed him to feel steady.
Maria’s body trembled, but she began to respond to Cruz’s kiss, letting go of her resistance.
