Callie suddenly turned to Zane with a look of grievance. She said, "Ms. Tarbor brought you dinner, and you didn't even tell me in advance. Look, now my food seems a bit unnecessary."
"It's not unnecessary," Zane said. He took her food container with a neutral tone. "I'll eat what you made."
Callie smiled sweetly. "Then I'll have the food Ms. Tarbor brought. It looks so delicious. It would be a waste not to eat it.

After a pause, I added, "You two enjoy your meal. I have some things to take care of, so I'll be leaving now."

"I've already eaten," I replied with a faint smile and headed for the door.
