I wasn't sure what I said that set him off, but Zane's expression darkened in an instant. I took two steps back, cautiously watching him.
"Don't get upset. I really don't want to go to Ashbourne."
After all, I had to attend the dance competition and win that three million dollar prize. I couldn't possibly go with him to Ashbourne.
Zane took a long drag of his cigarette, staring at me coldly for what felt like a full minute. I nervously fidgeted with my hands, too afraid to say another word.
When he finished his cigarette, he stubbed it out and said calmly, "Fine."
I breathed a sigh of relief.
He stood up and walked toward the door, but as he passed by me, he shot me a glance and instructed coldly, "While I'm gone, you'd better behave. Don't do anything to make me angry."
"Of course! I'll be good," I promised.
Then, Zane left promptly. He must've been angry because he spent the entire night in the study.
