Every day, Whitney would stroll around the backyard. The household staff knew her routine and did not follow her most days.
She headed down the path that led from the backyard to the greenhouse. Various floral scents greeted her, a heady perfume interspersed with notes of freshly turned, damp soil.
Whitney looked up and saw Rachel standing before the pot of Juliet roses on the shelf. The blooms were an exquisite shade of champagne, their lush and layered petals forming cups of intricate elegance.
"Did you know it takes 15 years to cultivate these roses? And it takes a highly trained botanist to do it, too," Whitney remarked.
As if already anticipating her arrival, Rachel did not turn to acknowledge her and only stared at the roses. Whitney continued as she sauntered forward, "They cost close to 15 million dollars, making them one of the most expensive roses in the world."
