Over the past two days, Wallace had vomited blood three times and suffered one cardiac arrest. The resuscitation efforts were starting to take longer, and his moments of consciousness were increasingly fleeting.
Melina, who had cried her heart out in a previous outburst, seemed to have no more tears left to shed.
She no longer cried or made a fuss. She simply sat by Wallace's side, her presence unwavering.
It felt as though his dwindling life force was draining her spirit along with it. She was sinking into deep despair.
"Lina, sit with me and eat something," Wallace said weakly during one of his rare lucid moments.
"Sure, Mr. Wentworth Senior. I'll eat whatever you feel like eating with you," Melina replied eagerly.
A man in his condition could barely swallow, let alone have an appetite. But each time he woke, he would insist on eating something.
He knew that if he didn't eat, Melina wouldn't either.
