Chapter 18

With a sharp smack, a hand landed on Layla's face, instantly leaving a burning pain. Layla's instinct was to retaliate, but seeing the classroom full of children, she held back. As a teacher, engaging in a fight would set a bad example for her students. Instead, she suppressed her anger and glared coldly at the woman. "What right do you have to hit me?" The woman scoffed. "I have the right to hit a homewrecker like you! You've only been working here a few days, and you're already seducing other people's husbands. No wonder your daughter was born a mute; that's karma catching up to you!" Upon hearing this, Layla could no longer control her emotions. She could handle being insulted, but insulting her daughter was unacceptable. Grabbing the woman's wrist, Layla demanded, "Apologize to my daughter, or don't blame me for being rude." The woman laughed mockingly. "Apologize to the daughter of a whore? Hah! Today, I'll make sure you're thrown out of this school. "Everyone, come and take a look! This teacher brings her child to work, disrupts the class, and even seduces other people's husbands. Does she deserve to teach our children?" The commotion quickly drew murmurs from other parents. "She seemed like a good teacher. I guess we really can't judge a book by its cover." "Bringing her child to work is already unprofessional. We should demand an explanation from the principal. Why are we paying tuition for her childcare?" "Yeah. We can't have someone like this teaching the children of the gifted class. We demand her dismissal from this school!" The classroom erupted into chaos. Daisy watched her mother being surrounded and even slapped. Frightened, tears streamed down her face. She immediately used her smartwatch to call Seth using the number she had left him previously. Shortly after, a deep, magnetic voice sounded on the other end. "Daisy, what's wrong?" Hearing his familiar voice, Daisy felt even more troubled. She stuttered, unable to form coherent words. The faint sound of insults from the other end reached Seth's ear. Sensing that something was amiss, he asked, "Is someone bullying your mommy?" Daisy forced out a faint sound. Hearing her distress, Seth's heart ached. Lowering his voice, he said, "Don't cry, Daisy. I'll be there soon." Without waiting for the car to come to a complete stop, Seth grabbed Benjamin's hand and strode toward the school. "Your mom is in trouble. We need to hurry." Hearing this, Benjamin's face darkened with anger, and he quickened his pace. Daisy stared blankly at the name on her phone screen. She couldn't help but shout, "Daddy!" However, her shout was drowned out by the noise of the ongoing commotion. Meanwhile, Layla remained calm amidst the chaos. She knew that this was an orchestrated attack aimed to drive her out of the school. She had only been working in this school for two days and hadn't met many parents. There was no way she would have offended someone this badly in just two days. She coldly confronted the woman. "You're accusing me of seducing your husband. Do you have evidence?" The woman raised her chin triumphantly. "Oh, I've got evidence. Let me show you." She then took out her phone, opened a chat on WhatsApp, and showed a photo to the crowd. "Look! This is the evidence of her seducing my husband. She's only been working here for two days, and she's already like this. If we let her stay, our families will all be torn apart by her!" Layla took one glance at the photo and immediately understood who was behind it. Having peeked at the chat box, she figured out who sent the photo as well. She had just added Clarissa on WhatsApp the day before and instantly recognized her profile picture. Layla's expression turned gloomy. You've been played for a fool and don't even realize it. I'm a little worried about your intelligence." "Are you calling me stupid?" Layla sneered. "Why don't you ask your son if I was seducing your husband? He was right there." The woman grabbed Simon, pointed at his nose, and asked, "Tell me, did your teacher seduce your dad?" Frightened and feeling pressured by his mother, Simon nodded hesitantly. The woman smiled proudly. "See? Even my son admits it. What do you have to say? I'm going to the principal right now to get you fired!" At that moment, a few boys spoke up. "Simon is lying. Ms. Jenkins didn't seduce his dad. Someone knocked into Ms. Jenkins, and she almost fell over. Simon's dad just helped her. We were all there." "Yeah! I saw it too. Simon, don't you know that your nose will grow longer if you lie?" Confronted by his classmates, Simon could no longer control his emotions. He erupted into tears, squatting on the ground and clutching his head. Layla's cold gaze was fixed on the woman. "My daughter is a paying student in this school. This isn't in violation of the rules. "As for your accusations, your husband merely helped support me when I almost fell down. You are the one spreading rumors and creating chaos in this school. I have every right to press charges against you." With that, she reached for the phone to call security. But before she could, the woman slapped the phone out of her hand. The screen shattered on the ground. As if that wasn't enough, she stomped on the phone. The screen lit up, revealing Layla's wallpaper of Daisy smiling brilliantly in a white dress. The woman once again stomped on the screen with her high heel, splitting a crack right down the middle of the picture Daisy's face. Although it was her phone that was stepped on, Layla felt as if her daughter had been stepped on. She pushed the crowd away and knelt on the ground to retrieve her phone. As soon as she reached her hand out, the woman's sharp heel landed on the back of her hand. The agonizing pain coursed through Layla's body, causing her anger to flare up. She picked up her phone and stood up. Suppressing her rage, she said, "For the students' sake, I don't want to get into a conflict with you. However, I am their class teacher, and I want to teach them a lesson. "Sometimes, it's wise to endure. But when someone crosses the line with no remorse, that's when you should stand up for yourself." With that, Layla delivered a hard slap to the woman's face, the sheer force of it leaving the woman light-headed and seeing stars. The woman yelled, "You bitch! First, you seduce my husband. Now, you dare hit me? I'll rip your face apart. Let's see how you seduce any man again!" She then lunged at Layla like a starving tiger hunting for food. But before she reached her, a chilling voice sounded from behind. "Touch her, and see what happens."
