"No," Natalie denied it instantly. She and Taylor had never really gone through the dating stage anyway.
"Then what's up with his tone? When he saw us, it was like…" He was about to say that Taylor acted as though he had caught them in the act, but he felt that it wasn't appropriate, so he changed his words. "It was like he had been cheated on."
"Maybe he's feeling a bit off today."
After the non-committal reply, Natalie withdrew her gaze from Taylor and turned to face Theo. "Theo, it was great meeting you today. We can continue to discuss the case next time. I have to leave first."

In three minutes, Natalie got into Taylor's car. She barely seated herself in the passenger seat when Taylor said in a distant tone, "Put on your seatbelt."
She didn't follow his instructions. "I drove here. If you have something to say, say it. I'll drive home myself."
