Chapter 37 Recognizing Someone by Scent
The rest of the day, Sophia and Lydia treated Evelyn like she was some kind of thief. They kept their distance, watching her every move. They even made a point of badmouthing her in front of regular customers, dropping little jabs whenever they could.
By lunchtime, the store began to quiet down. The customers thinned out, and the four of them took turns heading to the cafeteria.
"You two go ahead," Wendy said as she restocked the shelves. "When you're back, I'll take Evelyn to lunch."
Sophia and Lydia had been busy all morning and were starving. Without hesitation, they laughed and chatted, walking off to the cafeteria.
Wendy turned to Evelyn. "Don't mind what they said this morning. Just focus on doing your job."
Evelyn nodded and calmly replied, "Okay."
In a way, they weren't entirely wrong. Evelyn had used connections to get this job, and with her face, she had no illusions about making real friends here.
