Helen shook her head, not dwelling on it any further. Then, she took out her phone to call a cab home.
Upon returning to the Newton residence, Helen found Esmond and Chandler playing chess in the yard. Surprised to see her, Esmond remarked, "Helen, why the sudden return? You should have informed us so Chandler could have picked you up."
Helen explained, "It's fine. I managed on my own."
Esmond beckoned her over, "Come here, let me have a look at you. You've lost weight in just half a month. You must have been studying too hard. Harper, prepare some chicken soup for Helen tonight."
Harper quickly acknowledged him, "Understood, Mr. Newton Senior."
"Come, Helen, join me for a game," Esmond invited, and Chandler graciously vacated his seat for her.
They played chess. Having learned a bit from her grandfather, Helen was somewhat familiar with the game, making her a novice.
"Chandler, keep an eye on her. Make sure she doesn't lose too badly," Esmond instructed.
Chandler obliged, "Yes
