Chapter 19 Han Wei

Ye Shaotang lowered his head and smiled enticingly. “Don’t you trust your husband?” Ye Shaotang’s warm breath caressed Xu Yi’s ear. Xu Yi shrunk her neck subconsciously. The numbing and strange sensation traveled across her body like electricity. The way Xu Yi shrunk her neck involuntarily was like a bunny in shock, one would want to fondle her admiringly. Ye Shaotang chuckled, “Why? Did I say something wrong?” Xu Yi glared at Ye Shaotang. Even though she had never experienced it, but she had heard about it. Xu Yi definitely knew why her body was reacting the way it did. Xu Yi could only brush this off as the human’s natural reaction. After all, the previous Xu Yi had loved Ye Shaotang so inextricably as if she could not live without him. But Xu Yi was fuming that Ye Shaotang would do that titillating action at this moment. This was An Xin’s funeral. It was disrespectful. When she thought about this, Xu Yi’s impression of Ye Shaotang changed from a frigid bastard to a piece of garbage who would flirt with girls anytime and anywhere with no limits. She kept a distance from Ye Shaotang deliberately and said rudely, “Yeah, how would you be wrong? Let me know if you have a better plan. Why are you loosening the reins to grasp them better now? Do you think aside for you, I can’t find other people for help? Aren’t you overestimating yourself a little bit?” Looking at the witty Xu Yi, Ye Shaotang felt love and hatred for her at the same time. He grabbed Xu Yi with one hand and pressed her against him. He said calmly, “Actually, I’ve been helping you since we got out of the car. You just didn’t realize it.” Xu Yi stared at him blankly for a while and then finally realized what he meant. After getting out of the car, Ye Shaotang was the one who had stood in front of the camera. She was standing on his other side and was blocked from the cameras if she did not move a lot. Looking at Xu Yi’s expression, Ye Shaotang’s mood turned better. There was a glimmer of glee in his eyes when he chuckled, “I’m smart, right?” Xu Yi looked at him flabbergasted. She scoffed coldly. “Do you have other siblings? Like, an identical twin brother?” Ye Shaotang’s face turned cold in an instant. “What do you mean?” There was a hint of disappointment in Xu Yi’s eyes as she pouted. “Hehe, what do I mean? I meant, the Ye Shaotang I know is always serious in speech and manner and would not be frivolous in cold jokes. But the Ye Shaotang that I’m seeing now…does not look the Ye Shaotang that I know. I was wondering if I brought the wrong man out today?” Ye Shaotang’s expression turned ugly. “Xu Yi, do you think I’m going to stand here and let you bully me after I treated you nicely?” Xu Yi shrugged. “Not at all, I’m used to your fierce side so when you’re nice to me suddenly, I feel like you’re a different person. Young Master Ye, you look very excited today.” Xu Yi’s reminder to Ye Shaotang was like a wake-up call. He looked at Xu Yi unbelievably and said, “What do you mean?” Xu Yi’s face darkened. “No matter how much you don’t like An Xin, you should not look so happy at her funeral. Don’t you think it’s disrespectful to the dead? It doesn’t matter what beef you had with An Xin, but she has passed away. Can’t you at least respect the dead?” Ye Shaotang’s heart sank. He did not notice his transformation until Xu Yi told him. Indeed, this was An Xin’s funeral. It’s his beloved woman’s funeral. How could he…flirt with another woman here? He let go of Xu Yi subconsciously but pulled her back in his embrace again after feeling empty. He said in a low voice, “Would I even forget myself if I didn’t come and help you? You are blaming me instead of yourself. Xu Yi, do you still have a conscience? Or are you so used to shift the blame on other people?” Xu Yi gritted her teeth after seeing Ye Shaotang’s instant transformation. She glared at him and said coldly, “Ye Shaotang, not bad. Why? Do you want to fight me here? Have you thought it through?” At this moment, the two of them had walked into the vicinity of the cameras. The flashing lights and the clicking sounds from the cameras made Xu Yi extremely uneasy. Xu Yi looked at Ye Shaotang with her extremely grim face. It was like she was demanding an explanation from him. Ye Shaotang was feeling bad as well. He said angrily after a while, “Alright, let’s talk about this when we get home. If you keep on behaving like this, then there won’t be a happy ending. I don’t know how you’re going to face your best friend if you ruined her funeral.” Even though Ye Shaotang’s words were like nails on the chalkboard, but it did remind Xu Yi the important thing she came here to do. However, Xu Yi started to feel worried after looking at Ye Shaotang’s solemn face. She looked at him carefully and said after a short while, “What’s wrong? Are you angry? I was just telling the truth. If you don’t like it, then I won’t do it anymore. Please don’t purposely ruin what I’m about to do later and spoil it for me.” Ye Shaotang’s face was dark. “A man never goes back on his promise. Don’t you gauge the heart of a gentleman with one's own mean measure.” Xu Yi wanted to say something else, but when she saw Ye Shaotang’s expression, she scoffed and shut her mouth. She was not a person who would win favor by fawning on someone, even if this person was Ye Shaotang, or even if this person would able to help her. However, Xu Yi was grateful that despite being in a bad mood, Ye Shaotang was still looking out for her. She could feel lesser and lesser camera flashlights on her. People would know instantly that Xu Yi did not want to be photographed, but what surprised Xu Yi was Han Wei who was standing in front of the funeral parlor. Han Wei was Xu Yi and An Xin’s best friend. The three of them were very close to each other like an iron triangle. However, Xu Yi and An Xin found out that she was not a good person. She had purposely gotten close to them after knowing their family background and leverage on opportunities to claim connections to high status for riches and honor. Han Wei ended up becoming An Xin’s stepmother. It was a huge blow to An Xin, with her best friend becoming her stepmother. Their relationship crumbled and they became strangers to each other. Han Wei was here now with her puffy eyes and sunken face. It was as if this was the death of her biological daughter.
