Chapter 35 : The Calm Before the Storm
Ash's POV:
Going to school the next day after last night's bombshell was hard. I feel as though that was an oversimplification of how I'm feeling currently, but I'm at a loss of how best to articulate myself that doesn't leave me in crying fits that end with a troubling amount of coughs. So, I don't, and my expensive asthma medication and pockets thank me for not trying to go beyond my means.
"What we need…is a vacation." Billie slumped next to my locker, her legs crossed at the ankle so her scalloped-edged socks flop against one another. She's messing up her ringlets, her short ponytail flattening against the metal of our lockers, and I know if her mother saw her—Principle Lewis—there would be hell to pay. "I'm serious, Ash. Grandmama gave me about fifty bucks this Ēostre to spend any way I like and I have half a mind to take a week off and head to Vegas. Maybe then we might get to see The King himself."
"That sounds nice…" I say non-committedly, putting back my textbo
