After signing the documents, they stepped outside into the deepening night.
"Judy, let's go have dinner together," Avery suggested, still looking excited. "It's been so many years since I last saw you. I have so much to tell you."
"Never!"
Before Judy could respond, Mabel rushed from Clark's side and clung to her legs, glaring at Avery. "Mommy is going home with me, not having dinner with the bad teacher."
Avery paused, suddenly remembering that Judy had left after having a daughter.
"Judy, Mabel is…"
Judy nodded slightly, her eyes filled with tenderness.
"And Caleb?"
"That's a long story. I'll tell you another time." Judy glanced behind her. "It's getting late today, and I might need to stop by the hospital. Let's talk another day, Avery."
Avery looked slightly disappointed. "Alright, then."
"Let's exchange numbers," Judy suggested, pulling out her phone.
"Sure."
Avery hailed a cab and left, but not before warning Clark, "If you dare hurt Judy, I won't let you off!"
