7 Too Innocent To Keep
The royal family was great. Everything Emmy desired was brought in upon her request and she enjoyed it being served though it was not like her to enjoy such privileges. Emmy would have preferred to help in any way she could but Marty had asked her not to. She was supposed to enjoy her stay and not stain herself!
“What do I do now? I'm starting to get bored here.” She thought to herself.
“Let me go check on the plants to see if there is anything I can do to keep myself busy out here.” She said to herself and then walked to the garden which was just a few meters from her room.
Once she got there, she thought about her family and the thoughts made her gloomy. Emmy was rather glad she was able to move around the premises without being watched by her parents or the guards. Maybe in due time, things would fall into place and she would finally understand how and why she was still in Marty's house. She hoped it would be sooner.
“He must feel something for me, otherwise why is he letting me stay here?” She thought to herself.
But as Marty had said, she was a special person to him and was his guest. That was all that mattered. Emmy continued with her activities while her mind was carried away by the sweet words that Marty had used on her, he called her “special”!
There were so many thoughts going through her mind and she hoped that one day, Marty would wake up and tell her the whole truth. Something like; he liked her and that he saw more than friendship in her. That day would be the best day of her life but until then, she had to live in confusion just hoping.
The afternoon came and she went to change after tending to the plants. Though she was always preoccupied with doing a few things in the garden, she always spared some time to rest in the afternoon since there was no one after her and she loved that feeling of freedom.
Emmy took a shower and then went to get some rest only to end up sleeping. Emmy was taken to a land unspeakable in her dream and she saw herself marrying a very handsome young man.
The groom was witty and intelligent and he loved her so much. He was dressed in a black suit and had his brown beard trimmed together with his hair. He also had fur and long hands and just then someone appeared from the crowd.
“Stop, you can't marry her. She cannot shift. There are other beautiful girls out here who can shift, you are making a mistake!” The person shouted. Looking on, it was a familiar face. It was Emmy's stepmother who had come to stop the wedding!
“Mum, please don't do this to me, please,” Emmy cried but the man quickly left the aisle and walked away. He was disappointed as Emmy had not told her the truth. He felt played.
“What did you do, mother?” She screamed at her stepmother.
“You are not worth anything! We told you this many years ago but you don’t listen and so you keep embarrassing us!” she responded unapologetically.
Emmy ran away and locked herself in a room. She said she wouldn't eat and wanted to die. She stayed there only to be saved by Marty at midnight. He came in very ready to help her and unlike Jamie, Marty was armed.
Wake up, you have to go. I am here to save you from these monsters. You deserve to be happy. You deserve to be with me…” Marty said.
“Really, but you have never told me anything like that. We have been living under the same roof and you never say these words. Why today?” Emmy wondered.
“I was waiting for the right time and the right time is now!” he continued.
“Does that mean that you love me?” She asked innocently.
“It means I will always help you. I will always save you and no one will ever take advantage of you!” he said and once he noticed the shock written on Emmy’s face, he called her again. There was no time and her parents were approaching.
She was getting ready to leave when Marty called her again…
“Wake up! Sleepyhead!” Marty said while shaking her head vigorously since she was dead asleep. Emmy woke up confused. She could not believe she was just dreaming. Just what was Marty’s intention both in the dream and in reality?
“Are you okay?” Marty asked her but it was the dream that had left her confused. Emmy wondered what the dream meant since it felt so real.
“Does it mean that Marty's role in my life is to save me and not marry me?” She thought to herself.
“Come on, talk to me, are you okay?” He asked again and Emmy cleared my throat and lied that she was fine.
“I'm fine; I just had a bad dream. Nothing serious,” she lied.
Marty sat there looking at her. He had so many questions in his mind. Just what was she dreaming about that had scared her like that? He wanted to ask her but he knew she would lie.
“You are shaking, was it scary?” he asked curiously.
“Yes, some people were after me…” she said in a low tone making Marty change the topic immediately. It was making her uncomfortable.
Marty’s mind raced back to the day they both met for the first time…
“What if she is just the one? I need a sign from the gods!” he thought to himself.
Emmy on the other hand could not help but wish Marty was clear enough for her to understand her role in the premises. She just could not live like that without knowing what she was doing there. There were many things that she would think about whenever Marty was not around.
Emmy thought of leaving and waiting to see if Marty would look for her, that way she would know if he cared about her. Other times she thought of hiding whenever he saw him approaching her room.
Even with all the easiness on his face, Marty had his worries too. He wondered why they met in the woods that day and what the relevance of that meeting was. This was because he was starting to lose the connection.
“She is gentle, beautiful, and very understanding but ….” Marty thought to himself.
“Maybe my duty was to save her. She has had the worst life since childhood. Maybe I am just her savior and should protect her and not fall for her,” He thought.
According to Marty, she was too innocent for him!
But to Emmy, Marty was the definition of perfect and there was no one as attractive as him. Ever since she laid her eyes on him, she had not thought about any other man. She was ready for him but he had his reservations.
“Maybe he is waiting for the right time to tell me what he feels.” Emmy convinced herself.
Just maybe!
