Chapter 63 The Injury
"Pull over up ahead." Benedict's voice lacked warmth.
Maisie glanced out of the car window at a high-end mall, her heart beating a bit faster. "Actually, I was just kidding. You don't have to rush. I wasn't serious about getting a gift right now."
The lights from outside cast shadows on Benedict's cold, handsome face. "Take a cab back yourself. I'm tired today and want to get home early."
Maisie's hopeful expression instantly froze, turning somewhat gloomy.
'He's just using tiredness as an excuse. The real focus is on taking the drunk Cordelia home!' she thought.
"Well, fine. Cordelia wouldn't listen to my advice earlier and drank so much. Take care of her when you get back."
She tried to elicit some response from Benedict, but he only nodded slightly, his face stoic.
"I'll head back then. Remember to give her warm milk tomorrow morning."
Maisie smiled as she got out of the car, watching it drive away. Her expression gradually turned dark as she stood by the roadside.
