Chapter 17 Fixing the Contract

Jason was about to lose his temper when he heard Yvonne's voice right before Charlotte hung up. He was stunned. He seemed to have misunderstood Charlotte. After he calmed down a bit, he instructed his assistant in a low voice, "Check Charlotte's whereabouts." "Yes, Mr. Langley." Charlotte brought Yvonne to her company the next day. She intended to discuss the contract with Jason seriously, which she couldn't hold off any longer. She couldn't accept staying with Jason anymore. Just as she walked to the CEO's office, she heard someone talking, who seemed to be Jason's friend. He was teasing, "I heard that you haven't settled the contract with the Hoyce Group. It's just a minor mistake. Do you have to make things difficult for your secretary? Everyone is saying that you can't let go of her. Is it true?" Charlotte was stunned and couldn't help slowing down when she heard Jason's indifferent reply. "She's just a plaything. Why can't I let go of her? I'm just trying to give Silas a hard time." Charlotte's eyes darkened. Yvonne was distressed to see her that way. Right then, Charlotte pushed open the door, and the ones in the office immediately stopped talking. There was a look of fleeting shock on Jason's face, but then he frowned with displeasure. "Why didn't you knock? As for what you said yesterday..." "I'll get the contract fixed today, and I hope that you can abide by the agreement we made, Mr. Langley, where I'll go through the resignation procedures right after I fix the contract," Charlotte promised determinedly. With that, she closed the door and left before Jason could say anything. Yvonne was wondering how Charlotte was going to fix it when she made a call, which was picked up in a short while. Charlotte took a long breath and typed, "Are you available for a meal today, Mr. Hoyce? I've considered your offer." Charlotte chose the restaurant where she used to dine with Jason. Although he wasn't nice, he had fine taste. When Silas's phone buzzed, he checked the caller ID and smiled. He slowly wiped his cue and then potted smoothly. "Sorry, guys. Something's up, and I have to excuse myself now. Just put it on my bill." Someone aside whistled. "Are you leaving to meet some pretty lady, Mr. Hoyce?" Silas smiled with a meaningful look in his grayish-green eyes. "She's more than pretty. She's foxy." The waiter led Silas into a private room. When he pushed the door open, he saw Charlotte setting the table with her waist bent. She looked incredibly gorgeous with a curvy figure in the light. Silas chuckled and strode in. He sat opposite Charlotte calmly and said, "Looks like you've indeed considered my offer, Ms. Seinfield." Charlotte smiled politely. "I need your favor, don't I?" Silas didn't beat around the bush but cut to the chase. "And what should we do now, Ms. Seinfield? Should we sign a contract? Or do you have other conditions? I guess there are some." Charlotte looked into Silas's scrutinizing eyes and calmly replied, "You're indeed wise, Mr. Hoyce. I do have some other conditions." She retrieved the contract she had prepared from her bag and presented it to Silas. "Please see if there's anything wrong with it, Mr. Hoyce." Silas casually flipped through it and raised his eyebrows when he got to the last page. "A one-year statute of limitations? As far as I know, you've worked for Mr. Langley for more than a year." Charlotte looked down. She merely stared at the table without saying anything. "I can take the rest of your conditions but this." Silas wouldn't force her to a dead end, so he compromised. "Mr. Hoyce..." "What are you talking about with my secretary here, Mr. Hoyce?" A gloomy question interrupted the conversation. Standing by the door, Jason pushed open it as he looked around Silas and Charlotte with sharp eyes before he fixed them on Charlotte. When he saw that she was wearing a sexy long dress, he frowned and strode in. As he glanced at the file on the table, his eyes darkened. Jason faked a smile and said, "Looks like I've troubled my secretary too much. I'm sorry that she has bothered you so many times, Mr. Hoyce." Before Charlotte could say anything, he went on by saying, "Stay out of this. I'll talk with Mr. Hoyce while you wait for me outside the restaurant." Charlotte was quite hesitant. But when she saw Jason's confident look, she took her bag and left. "You're quite interesting." Silas unbuttoned the top button on his shirt with a lighter in his hand as he fiddled with it. "Am I? I don't know about that, but you're quite interesting, Mr. Hoyce." After Charlotte left, the two men grew hostile toward each other in the private room. While Charlotte was waiting for Jason, she got more and more flustered. She regretted leaving the room early and kept thinking about what Jason had said earlier. What should she do if he played tricks against her and got her to suffer again? Just as Charlotte was worrying, the door was pushed open. Both Jason and Silas walked out, and neither of them looked happy. Charlotte looked at them before asking Jason, "Is it done?" "Yeah." Jason nodded slightly. Charlotte heaved a sigh of relief. "That's amazing, Mr. Langley." Jason motioned for her to get into his car. "I'll give you a ride." Charlotte knew well where he was taking her. Since Jason had settled the contract, he would ask for something from her in return. She firmly believed that it would be the last time they did it. When they got to his car, Jason suddenly handed a file to Charlotte. Confused, Charlotte took it. "What is this?" "A renewal of our contract." Jason's words were concise and comprehensive. Charlotte froze when she read the contract. Jason was renewing their deal for a year, which meant that she would be his lover for another year. Seeing that Charlotte remained silent, Jason asked, "Do you have any objections?" Charlotte looked up to see Jason's calm face through the rearview mirror. After she did some thinking, she handed the file to him and asked seriously, "Can I not sign it?" Jason abruptly tightened his grip on the steering wheel hard. He pretended to ask nonchalantly, "You don't want to renew the contract, so whose lover are you gonna be? Silas's?" "What do you mean by that, Mr. Langley?" Charlotte felt distressed, and she didn't know how to explain it. "Why are you renewing our deal?" "It shows a one-year statute of limitations in your contract with Silas, and I've fixed it for you. It's the same with renewing our deal," Jason calmly explained. Charlotte figured out what was going on with mockery in her eyes. After a while, she replied softly, "Okay, I'll sign it, but I have another condition." Jason didn't speak. Charlotte continued, "Our deal will come to an end on your wedding day."
